This is a promising article based on research focused on the use of psilocybin with individuals diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Their findings suggests there is an increase in “brain network integration” with the use of psilocybin as stated in the abstract. Please see the links below to view the article and original research study. In the article they write the following:
“People with Major depressive disorder (MDD) and TRD often have negative thought patterns that involve pessimism, rote thought patterns and cognitive inflexibility. These cognitive behaviors are often paired with particular patterns of brain activity. The default mode network (DMN) is a brain network that has been repeatedly linked to introspective, self-focused thought. In depression, the DMN becomes hyperactive. Other brain networks linked to depression include the salience network (SN) and executive network (EN).” – Technology Networks: Neuroscience News and Research – April 11, 2022
It seems from the research that psilocybin has the capacity to create more flexibility in the brain, loosening old thought patterns, and ways of being that is long-lasting when used therapeutically. This is exciting news and could be very helpful for individuals struggling with MDD.

Increased global integration in the brain after psilocybin therapy for depression
Abstract to Study:
“Consistent efficacy-related brain changes, correlating with robust antidepressant effects across two studies, suggest an antidepressant mechanism for psilocybin therapy: global increases in brain network integration.” – eased global integration in the brain after psilocybin therapy for depression
