I thought I would share this interview with Bessel van der Kolk. He talks what happens to the brain when a child is exposed to trauma. He suggests that there are ways to heal trauma and specific ways to help someone “feel what is happening in the body and not run away from it,” “be friends with the internal experience,” and learn how to feel “safe in their body.” Please check out his book, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma. He outlines various healing modalities that are best for working with individuals that have experienced trauma.
