I thought this was a really interesting article and thought I would share. Stephanie Foo in The Guardian describes how she unknowingly was living with complex PTSD. She has recently written a book that I have yet to read but is on my list. Her new book is called What My Bones Know: A Memoir of Healing Complex Trauma. In the article she talks about how pervasive trauma actually is. I often have people come to me and soon discover or realize that they have experienced trauma in their life, and it is directly impacting them every day.
She states in the article:
“I have friends who start teaching at all-Asian schools and they’re delighted by the Asian kids who are just so studious, so excited about learning and so hardcore about getting good grades. That’s comfortable, right? Why would you want to further investigate, to see whether [the reason] all these students want to have perfect grades and freak out otherwise, is because they’re being abused at home? Capitalism and academic success have buried trauma.” – The Guardian: Interview with Stephanie Foo
