There are many factors that impact the development of the brain. Wijeakumar, Kumar, Reyes, Tiwari & Spencer (2019) found that poverty is one of them.

“Although the impact of adversity on brain development can trap children in an intergenerational cycle of poverty, the massive potential for brain plasticity is also a source of hope.”
I have worked with children, adolescents and adults from various socioeconomic backgrounds. What I find in my work with individuals is the same as what these researchers have found. The brain has the capacity to heal.
