I’m in recovery and scary memories are coming up. How do I find a professional?

I came across a great piece on Salon’s advice column today and I thought I would share it. A person wrote in concerning needing to find a therapist. He had previously written a letter that was published that suggested that he should first stop drinking. He in fact was able to get sober and then had this to write:

“I even had a letter published in your column once; your advice was, basically, stop drinking. It took me several years to do so, but I have embraced life enough that I got sober. And life is so much better now, but it’s not enough. There’s still this thing hanging on my back, and digging into my flesh.” (Written by What’s The Next Step? – Salon)

Does this describe your experience?  Often getting sober can be the first step in discovering what is underlying the addiction, habit or issue that continues to arise. If you feel like you are experiencing what this person writes about in his column, seeking therapy can be a great next step. To see the full column, please click the link below.
