Attached – Levine and Heller

I highly recommend Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How it can help you find – and keep – love by Amir Levine, MD and Rachel S. F. Heller, MA. The authors describe secure, avoidant and anxious attachment styles. Their work is based on Bowlby and Ainsworth’s research on parent-caregiver relationships that led to a theoretical perspective known as “attachment theory.”

I work with many people that disorganized attachment is the style they most identify with, and it was only until much later that it as recognized as an attachment organization. Many individuals that experience trauma in their childhood often do not have a way to manage the stress and/or abuse that is occurring.
